Portland Vocal Consort presents "Best of the the Northwest" Concert (Concerts)

PORTLAND – Some of the Pacific Northwest’s hottest classical music composers will be showcased April 6th in Portland Vocal Consort’s fourth annual wide-ranging concert, “Best of the Northwest,” Saturday April 6th at Portland’s First Christian Church at 7:30pm. Best of the Northwest - features the critically-acclaimed Portland Vocal Consort, conducted by Ryan Heller, in a program of modern choral compositions by some of the Northwest’s marquee classical music composers, including Joan Szymko, Karen Thomas, Bryan Johanson, and distinguished composer Robert Kyr. “To champion not only new music but also local artists is a big part of my passion with Portland Vocal Consort,” says artistic director Ryan Heller. “The northwest is such a hotbed for excellent choral music, and there’s an abundance of great work going on here. Centering Prayer Workshop Focuses on God’s Gift of Contemplative PrayerOur Lady of the Lake Church parishioners, family and friends are invited to attend an introductory centering prayer workshop in the Jerusalem Room of the Parish Center. Lunch is “brown bag”. A donation of $25 is suggested.Centering prayer is a method of prayer revived from the ancient teachings in the Christian contemplative heritage. Following sessions will be held six consecutive Mondays from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM beginning on Monday, April 15th and concluding on May 20th. We will have many different kinds of bare root trees and shrubs, both ornamental and fruit bearing. These are high quality trees and will immediately add value to your home landscape or garden.All proceeds support our club and it's programs including Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, Kiwanis Doernbecher Children's Cancer Program, Key Clubs, SMART, and Scholarships for our graduating high school seniors.

Oregon Potters Assocation's 31st Annual Ceramic Showechase (Community Event)
Time: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Location: Oregon Convention Center
Oregon Potters Association presents the 31st Annual Ceramic Showcase, the largest sale and show of ceramics in the U. S. This one-of-a-kind, three-day event will feature more than 170 booths of diverse, spectacular art for the home, garden and office. In addition to the pieces for purchase, the Ceramic Showcase will celebrate Oregon’s food and beverage heritage with a special focus on all kinds of functional, hand-crafted pottery for the table. This year’s event also will feature a special installation, “A Moveable Feast” of place settings donated by OPA members. Proceeds from the sale of the place settings will benefit Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon, a nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood hunger. Local chefs also will participate in cooking demonstrations throughout the weekend.
